BYE 3.1.11 Premium Randomly Freezing

tthayer

Question

Hi,

Version 3.1.11 is randomly freezing on me.  Sometimes it will work for an hour, other times it happens after a couple of minutes.  It seems to happen most often when I am switching from Planetary to Frame & Focus.  After looking at the logs, it appears to be freezing when it is retrieving weather data.  Since I did not have any weather service setup, I checked the settings and found it was set to auto.  So, I changed it to blank.  It still froze.  I then built a service to retrieve my weather stations data from Wunderground, wrote it out to CSV, and configured BYE to read it.  Which it successfully did.  Unfortunately, that does not seem to have resolved the problem.  I have included the logfile and the log4net file in the hopes you can shed some light on this.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with 8GB of Ram, with a 512 GB SSD partioned into two partitions on a Dell E6510.  One partition for system and apps, another for data. I have also assured that all drivers are up to date and the latest BIOS firmware for the E6510 is in place. I am interfacing with a Canon Rebel xSi (450D) Camera, using the Shoestring FCUSB focuser module, and a Atlas EQ-G mount.  Everything is using ASCOM drivers.

I also have extensive .Net experience, so if you need me to debug anything using Visual Studio, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks,

Tom

If I am interpreting the log file correctly you are choosing the Canon210 SDK/drivers set. This is for DIGIC II cameras but your camera is the DIGIC III bases XSi. You should be choosing the Canon 215 drivers.

The DIGIC II cameras did not support LiveView.

There is not evidence of freezing in the log files... but there is something wrong with the live view feed.  The camera seems unable to push a valid live view frame.

2017-06-28 13:06:09,671 [Liveview image push 395] INFO  - Parameter is not valid.

When this occurs, does the live view still work on the camera LCD screen.

Regards,

Have you tried different cabling? It could be a flaky cable or a cable that is too long. It could also be a saturated USB hub.

Hi Rick,

Yes, tried different cables and USB hubs.  I have connected the cables straight to the machine and tried via USB hub.  Always seems to be the same for some reason.  I used these same cables with previous versions of BYE and it worked.  Mind you, I just rebuilt everything recently and I am using a different system now, but everything else is working like before.  I will keep playing with the cables and hubs though to make sure. :)

Thanks,

Tom

I just checked that the LCD is not doing a live display at all.  Perhaps the problem is the camera?

Hi Rick,

You are completely right.  I have been using DIGIC 2.  Perhaps that is the issue.  I will run some tests and see.  Many thanks for that catch. :)

Thanks,

Tom

That certainly appears to be it.  There are no parameter errors and everything is switching back and forth smoothly.  Thanks so much for that. :) Added bonus is that I know have the weather data coming in and I wasn't seeing the drift alignment cross hairs like they are now.  Really like that. :)

Many thanks to both Rick and Guylain on this one.  If ever get the chance to run into either of you, beers on me. :)
