Could an agent of yours that lives in Europe download the SDK and send it to you, or would that also be naughty?

Technically yes, but I won't do it.  The rules are clear, I need to keep my requests for the SDK with the proper channels because Canon could revoke my privileges.

Canon's behaviour seems odd. If you were in a highly competitive market their behaviour would mean that a European company could have their product to market many months before a North American one could, for no other reason than Canon's poor admin!

Hmmmm strange.

What I find the strangest is that Canon provides the EOS Utility for every DSLR, at the time of purchase. The EOS Utility uses the SDK. This means that there is an available version of the SDK for that camera, at the time of purchase. That makes it even stranger that they only release the SDK to 3rd party developers only months later.

Are the European and North American SDKs different in any way? As the cameras appear to be released everywhere at about the same time it is very strange that the SDKs aren't also released at about the same time.

Oh well, another of life's mysteries :)

Ok, I just created a pre-release section in the download section.

https://www.otelescope.com/files/category/24-pre-releases/

will post pre-releases there from now on instead of sending individual emails with download link.

This version will not work yes with your T7i, or &7D... BUT you will get numbers link these when trying to connect your camera.

DEVICEINFO NUMBER IS ##########.
YOUR *REAL* MODEL NUMBER IS ########## (##########)

Send me those numbers, I need them to complete the implementation.

The SDK are the same, but Canon North America is not the same as Canon Europe and not the same as Canon Asia.  Sure they are all under Canon's umbrella but the are different entity and they have their own rules within.

As Rick points out the SDK is available for release in all markets at the same time (as it is required by EOS Utility), it is just not released to third parties in North America in line with the product release. I can see no business reason for Canon North America to delay the release till months after it has been released elsewhere apart from poor internal administration, I.e. they forget to release it.

I was trying to install the pre-release version but my trial license expired. Who do I need to contact to get an extension?

I just deleted your first trial key, go ahead and a trial in your cart again and proceed to checkout for a second 30-day trial.

It would probably take some sort of Social Media Campaign to express to Canon USA:  "There is little Incentive to Purchase Newly Released Canon DSLR Models UNTIL the SDK is also Released.  And your Competitors are doing BETTER in this respect."

Admittedly, even the full weight of the AP Imaging Community is only a Small Percentage of Canon's Target Audience for each New Model Launch.  But...

No, it did not connect properly, it defaulted to the generic 153 model.

Now, please download 3.1.2.RC3 from the same pre-release download page.  That one should work :)

Then it's a done deal :)

Live view works and you can take bulb images too?

Did  you notice that you added to a thread that was 4.5 months old? The downloads listed under pre-releases change over time. Currently, the only product with a pre-release version is BYN.

The T7i is supported by the most recent release (version 3.1.16) of BYE. It has been supported since BYE version 3.1.12 was released in July 2017.

I believe that the link that he referred to is the link to the pre-release version if BYE for T7i owners to test with. Since that version was fully released, it is no longer displayed in the Pre-releases area; only BYN 2.0.8 is currently listed there. That was the reason for some of my comments.

Ah, makes sense.  I just removed BYN 2.0.8 from the pre-release since 2.0.9 has been released.

For the T7i, please use the latest BYE 3.1.16 and you'll be fine :)
