Question

When using start capture button, camera completes exposure and attempts to download however, while the "busy" icon is being displayed "abort" flashes quickly and image never downloads. Log history for the capture looks as displayed below. Camera is D800 / Windows 10 OS.

Hi,

I am having the same issue with my Nikon D5300 using NEF recording 14 bits.  However using  same setup and setting NEF recording to 12 bits it works fine.  I used the included USB cable and a longer Nikon USB cable no difference.  BYN version is 2.0.9.  No SD card an d saving to PC only RAW.

Here's my log file:

01:16:27  Licensed to ssc10
01:16:27  Processor Affinity
01:17:23  Attempting to connect camera...
01:17:23  Nikon/D5300 drivers initialized.
01:17:26  D5300 CONNECTED!
01:17:39  Imaging session started.
01:17:51  Imaging session cancelled
01:17:51  [kNkMAIDResult_ValueOutOfBounds] (kNkMAIDCommand_CapStart, 33560, kNkMAIDDataType_GenericPtr, 355526944)
01:17:51  Imaging session cancelled

My firmware version is

C:1.01

L 2.016

Please advise.  I would really like to use my D5300 with 14 bit NEF.

Thanks,

Dan

Hello Dan,

Please start a new Thread for your issue.

1) Previous Thread was from Oct 2017

2) Previous Camera is NOT the same Camera that you are using

3) Previous Issue was SOLVED and is NOT the same Issue as you are reporting

Overall, if you want the best chance for help resolving your Issue, you'll want to supply Log files and Version of BYN and Version of SDK selected.

Please advise...

Unable to send log files from old computer as it's MIA. Any other ideas  ???

FYI: I've  upgraded the camera firmware and still wil not save a captured image using the capture button.

Download BYN 1.0 and try with your D800.  Send me that log file.  I'm pretty sure I can see the issue with that BYN 1.0.x log files.

How do you have the camera cabled to the PC? For testing you should cable directly between the 2 devices with a short cable. Are you cabled to a USB 2.0 port on the PC?

I'm pretty sure in this case for the D800 I did not provide the correct files associated with the driver selection when connecting the camera.  BYN 1.0 has a different way to select the driver files, the log file should tell which one is used by the D800.

I also had the same problem with my D800, would take 1 image and abort. Done a lot of trouble shooting, checked cable, camera settings, tried with and without lens and SD card, nothing helped. Changed setting in BYN from RAW+JEPG to just RAW and it works fine. Hope this helps.

OK Its been a while since I messed with this issue but last night I had a eureka moment and found the problem!!!!!!!

Under the settings window for BYN the selection of file type is causing the problem. If you choose RAW+JPEG and start a capture, It aborts and fails to save the capture. Any of the other modes RAW only or JPEG only it works perfectly! SO the issue is in the RAW+JPEG file selection. question now is how to solve.

Cheers!

Mike.

Send me the log file and I'll take a look.

Are you saving your images to both card and PC?  Try PC only in the mean time and see if this make a difference.

Are you taking bulb images?  If yes is your camera dial set to take bulb images.

I tried saving to both PC ONLY and PC/CARD.....same result.

On PC/CARD save, the image does get saved to camera card only.

Preview button works properly. image gets saved to PC and is displayed.

Weird on eh?

I've tried switching drivers already. Same result.

Don't know if this helps you but when I hit capture the sequence of massages is as follows:

1 OF 1

ABORTING

DOWNLOADING

BUSY

Then no image is saved.

But if I hit preview capture, seems to work fine, and on both driver versions.

Thanks, not it does not help sadly.  The error comes from the Nikon SDK.

Nikon did update their SDK last month, let me try and compile a new version with the new SDK for the D800 and see if it will work.

Yes I was bench testing with a lens however, this issue happends to me in the field with the camera on the scope. (No lens)

I have never upgraded firmware on camera and it used to work properly on Old BYN version on a WIN8 OS. I have another laptop with the old version of BYN running WIN8 And now the old version of BYN wont even connect to camera. Very frustrating.....
