Okay, just to clear one thing up.

Nikon camera do not allow changing time value and aperture, iso during live view.  You need to pause live view, make your changes, then resume live view.  I suspect this is the issue here... fingers crossed.

Regards,

That was the solution!!

Make sure to de-select Maximum Sensitivity setting.

You may have a problem shooting LiveView planetary videos with a lens because of the short true exposure (a few milliseconds) of LiveView frames.

When I shoot planetary images, I usually have a focal length in the range of 2500-4000 mm. With my hardware that focal length requires a telescope and a Barlow lens.

What camera model do you have?

Do you get an error message?

Regards,

I have the Nikon D5500. no error messages...it just jumps back to the setting that was originally there.

I also don't have the lens zoom control in any of the options in the top right of the program. Especially the frame and focus.

Im just testing this software in the house with no telescope..the camera is just connected to the laptop with lens. No Scope.

These are not implemented in BackyardNIKON.

EDIT: you mean lens focus, not zoom, right?

Is your camera dial set to manual where BULB is possible?

If yes clear the cache...

1) turn your camera off

2) go to Settings -> Advance Settings and clear the cache

3) turn your camera on

Do you still have the odd behavior?

Sorry, yes focus. I watched your video showing the software and noticed it there.

Yes, its set to manual...I tried the above and it doesn't work...

The log file above says this when I try to change the setting: Unable to set TV, current setting is assumed.

When you encounter a problem, first make sure that you can re-create it with the latest version of the software. Then when you report it, be sure to tell the community which version you are using. Tell us the version number. Saying that you are using "the latest" is not useful for someone who reads your post in the future after new versions have been released.

Can you also confirm that you have the Maximum Sensitivity option un-checked? It is the LiveView area of the Settings dialog.

Thanks!

Can you manually change that setting using the camera body without moving the dial away from manual?

I will try this.

Im having same problem--in planetary mode BN wont let me choose a shutter speed. If I choose something BN will just jump to some arbitrary speed. Ive seen maximum sensitivity should be turned off in settings but in settings it shows maximun sensitivity on but theres no way to turn it off?? My apologoes if this has been discussed before.

Please provide more information...Which camera? Which version of BYN?

Having the camera connected and LiveView on may be preventing you from un-checking Maximum Sensitivity. So disconnect the camera first then try to change the check box state.

Also, you should note that you MUST pause LiveView before changing the ISO or exposure.

Sorry... its BN 2.0. Camera is a Nikon D7000. I was able to check Maximum Sensitivity before camera was connected and it was off. I have paused live view but the same thing happens--ISO and shutter speed jump to all sorts of values if I try to change them. Sorry if this sounds stupid--I'm totally new to BN.

I had a D810A on consignment from Nikon 2 years ago and it had a form of live view simulation.

To activate it I had to disconnect the camera from the computer, activate live view, and press the OK button to activate live view simulation.  Once it is activated it stays activated so using BYN afterwards will have live view simulation activated and changing shutter speed and aperture (if a lens is connected) does change the live view image.

Try that on your camera and see if it makes a difference.

This option is only on some selected high end models though :(

Don't worry to fix your issue please follow these steps:

To restoring Nikon D7000 to its factory settings, just hold the [Qual] button and the [Exposure Compensation] button down together, until the control panel turns off briefly while the camera resets itself to the factory default settings. If still issue exits check Nikon D7000 Manual- guideusermanual.com/product-name-d7000-manual&po=4303&lang=English for help.
