Focusing

Question

The 1 aspect of the software that I would love to test is the focusing. Being unable to do so I'll ask my question here, after purchasing the premium edition that has the focus capability will it work if your camera is connected prime to your telescope; or is an autofocus lens needed for this feature to work. The reason I ask is because that is mainly how I would use the software.

The FWHM focus metric feedback works best with a telescope... and a bright star of course since live view is only a few milliseconds of data.

Adjust focus on your telescope until you get the lowest possible number overtime.

Hope this makes sense.

Regards.

Since you have not said what product (BYE or BYN) you are using you should know that adjusting a lens with the current version of BYN is not supported.

Control of a computerized telescope focuser from within BYE or BYN Premium Version requires that you install the ASCOM Platform and the ASCOM driver for your focuser.

On a somewhat related subject of FWHM focusing, I have found that going into the settings and then "LIVE VIEW" box, under "Frames" the default setting I believe is (10). If you bump that up to (15) it somehow helps BYE have just a bit more data to give you even a more precise average for focus. This works at least for my lowly Canon T-3 rebel which is the bottom of the barrel for Canon. Can't say as to your camera, but you can always go back to the default setting of (10). This info comes from a previous thread here in the forum, and has been beneficial to me. Dirty Harris Colo. USA.
