D3000 model cameras

Mikey

Question

DigicamControl runs these models very cleanly. They have also had support for them for as long as I've had A 3300. (Though the last update did open up an operation if I'm remembering correctly). Why is it BYN can't find these codes? I can find them with a rudimentary google search.

BYN uses software provide by Nikon (the Software Development Kit) to control the cameras. Nikon apparently chose to not release an SDK that supports those the D3xxx cameras. I believe that DigicamControl uses another mechanism that allows it to communicate with the cameras.

Guyain has said that the way BYN is structured it would be a major rewrite to just to support those few additional models.

Your question should really be to Nikon as to why they chose to not provide SDK-based tethered control of the D3xxx models.

This has been discussed many time.

BYN use the Nikon SDK to connect to the cameras and Nikon does not and will not produce an SDK for the 3### camera line up.

You can NOT find the Nikon SDK for these models with a rudimentary search because Nikon does not have any.

Control My Nikon uses PTP to communicate to the camera and this is why it works for them.

Again, THEY DO NOT USE the Nikon SDK.  Full stop right there.

That code is THEIR CODE to control the camera via PTP.

I've been around the block for over 20 years doing this.  There are no Nikon SDK for these models and for this reason these cameras are not supported.

It would take tremendous amount of time to support them without the SDK and the return on investment is simply not there.  The cost of a new camera (non D3000 series) is about $500 or less.  The cost (per diem rate) to rewrite BYN to use PTP would be well over $50,000.  I ain't doing it, not worth it.  Sorry.
