Can't connect to Backyard Nikon with D5200

vgro

Question

I purchased Backyard Nikon a while back. Yesterday I tried to connect and  it took about 45 minutes to connect my D5200 and only then after I took the scandisk card out. The next day it has been over an hour and it hasn't connected yet.

I am using Windows Vista Ultimate and BN version is 1.0.0

Thanks,

Vic

Guylain and Rick,

Unbelievable! I put in an empty memory card, downloaded the new BYN version 2.0.1 and rebooted the computer and I'm pleased to say BYN started up in less than 2 minutes.

Thank You immensely for your help. Great service. I can't wait to use it in the field.

Thanks,

Vic

First, you should upgrade to the latest version of BackyardNikon. The upgrade is free.

However that won't fix your issue. This has been discussed several times in archived threads in the BackyardNikon forum. BYN uses the Nikon Software Development Kit (SDK) to communicate with and control your camera. One of the characteristics of the Nikon SDK is that it wants to index all of the images on the memory card(s) that are in the camera as a part of the connection process. BYN has no control over the time it takes and no way to bypass this step.

To speed up the connection process you should insert an empty, or nearly empty, memory card into the camera before attempting to connect BYN with your camera.

That is frustrating for sure :(

1) As Rick said... download the latest 2.0.x.

2) Try rebooting your PC.

3) Use a short USB cable (less than 15 feet) and connect it directly in a computer USB port, no hubs.

If your camera connected once (as it did) then the issue is not BYN, but rather the connection between your camera and your PC.

Keep us posted,
