First, your model is the 350D, not the D350.

Next, you need to choose the Canon210 driver/SDK when connecting BYE to your camera.

Next, If you don't have the CD that came with the camera you could try to install the driver for Windows XP 32-bit.

It will only get more difficult to make today's software work with your 10-year old camera, especially since Canon no longer supports it. If you are serious about astrophotography you should consider purchasing a camera with support on the newer versions of Windows.

I stand corrected on the model, thanks for the driver tip for xp. And lastly Some of us have to work with what we can afford and don't have the funds to go out and spend thousands of dollars on a new camera. I guess I should give up and not even try.

For the 350D you need to install the drivers that came with the camera first.  These drivers are not included in the W7 install so they must be installed separately.

Do you have the CD that came with the camera?

I do not have the original cd, I'll go back to the canon site and get the windows xp drivers

I did not mean to suggest that you should give up. That said, this hobby will take whatever money you want to put into it.

You can get a decent DSLR without spending thousands of $$$. The Canon T5i (body only) goes for ~$650. You may need to spend an additional ~$40 to purchase a high-speed, high-capacity SD memory card for it.

The T5i offers several advantages over the XT that will make a significant improvement in your imaging. Here are some of them:

1) supported by Canon

2) compatible with 64-bit versions of Windows

3) lower noise than the XT

4) larger sensor than the XT

5) LiveView for faster focusing

6) Bulb exposures without the need for a second cable (for the XT you need to connect 2 cables, in parallel, between the PC and the camera if you want to take images with exposures greater than 30 seconds).

I would say that the camera you have will be good enough to get your feet wet in Astrophotography and learn the techniques and work flow but eventually you will want a new camera so when you are ready to buy a new camera. a place to look for canon cameras is the canon camera website and look at the refurbished DSLR cameras. I have been using a refurbished T3i camera for a few years now. I also used the T3i unmodified and it took good photos. A modified camera is not necessary, just a luxury.

be sure to keep an eye on the BYE supported camera list when shopping for a new camera, as some of the newer inexpensive canons are not supported.

Thanks Rick I will keep that in mind. If nothing else I can use the camera with the Ir remote. Hopefully the mirror won't impart too much vibration. I have all of the needed cables they came with the camera. It was a trade deal so it was the most affordable way to go for me.

Stargateobs:

I don't know what more I might add to the answers already given here, other than to say that I experienced a similar problem with my Canon T-3 rebel (discontinued), which I bought used along with the CD that came with it and the cable for camera to computer. Had the same issue with connection problem, even after installing the proper drivers. Come to find out in the final analysis that the cable itself was defective. I bought a new one from Amazon and no more problems. Sometimes it's just the simplest of things that can go wrong. Don't know if this could be your problem or contributing to it maybe? But don't give up, this Astrophotography is a different kind of duck, it requires patience, and perseverance. Dirty Harris Colo. USA.
