D5500 Won't Connect

jamiesmithnc

Question

So after reading that the D5500 was in fact supported, and purchasing BYN I am having problems- it won't connect.

Fresh install of BYN on a brand new windows 10 install, open up BYN (2.0.1) plug it in, turn on the camera, click connect.  The LCD flashes on and off, then bzzzt. Connection Error.

I get the same error with SGP as well.  I saw that a couple people are using this camera - It shows up in the windows device list as a d5500.

Any ideas??

Thanks,

-jamie

I was unable to find any posts that mentioned anything about bootcamp settings.

I tried several other installs, and finally made some headway on a fresh windows 8 vm- except it (not sure if "it" was BYN or just the OS) asked about a missing dll, msvcp120.dll - which I found on Download Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio ...

I figured "what the heck" and installed the same set on the windows 10 on my boot camp image - and now it works.  Should this DLL be in one of the install packages?

I have several hundreds of users with a D5500.  It is supported and it should connect.  The SDK for this model is mature.

Which Nikon drivers did you select in BYN, Nikon or Nikon2015?  It makes a difference.

The wifi was off- and there isn't an option for that PTP setting.

I don't know WHAT I did - I was switching back and forth on the XP computer, and it just started working -- with the XP Laptop.

Perhaps there is also a problem using this in win 10 on bootcamp?

Is there a "minimum PC requirements" listed somewhere?  Maybe I will just go buy a windows netbook.  They really aren't that much more than the windows license that I will need to buy soon.

(thanks for the late night responses, BTW!)

msvcp120.dll is a c++ redistributable package file; the installer is suppose to detect if it is installed and if not it should install it silently.  Looks like there might be a bug int he installer... not sure.
