D90 - DSUSB shoestring cable

Waterbourn

Question

I have used BYN with normal settings and normal cable and worked great.  Now I have gotten a DSUSB from Shoestring so I can use bulb setting.  However I can't get the D90 to connect.  I read the directions for some type of USB cable on the forum, but not sure if that is the same cable that I have?  I did wait 10 seconds after turning camera on to hit connect. But no luck.

thanks.

Did you connect both cables or the DSUSB only?

You need both cables, the DSUSB is for the BULB feature only.  The regular cable is for everything else :)

Hope this helps,

Haha.  I'm a dummy.  I now have both cords connected and the d90 connects to BYN.  Then i pick DSUSB from the drop-down and put my camera on bulb.  The SD card is out of the camera.  I hit start capture (say for 30 seconds), but my shutter never opens.  BYN just counts to 30 and sits at busy for awhile  before coming back to the main screen.

So making progress  :)  but still having issues with bulb.  I did run USB Check and the cable will open and close my shutter.  However I also tried the DSLR Shutter program and it also will not open my shutter either.  So unsure what is going on?

Are you sure you selected DSUSB and not DSUSB2?I have that same combination and it works for me. Try the app that came with you cable to test the cable.

I figured it out!  Such a simple thing.  I was testing all this in the house with a lens on the camera.  The lens was on autofocus.  Once I flipped that switch to manual, then everything starts working just fine including  BYN, DSUSB Check and DSLR Shutter.  Whew.  I wasted hours trying to figure this out.  But I am so happy it is working!!  I was scared my cable was messed up.
