D5300 cables-DUSB?

willcarney

Question

My D5100 no longer connects to the computer due to a failing plug or board.  It also has issues that don't allow manual adjusting now.

So I'm thinking about buying a D5300.  Currently my D5100 uses the Shoestring DSUB box and cables.

I believe the D5300 just uses two cables and no box?  Am I right or do I still need to use the DSUB for the D5300?

I use a 15 foot TetherPro USB 2.0 Mini-B 8-Pin cable by tethertools (can be found on Amazon or through tethertools websit) for both a d5300 and a d5500 a bit pricy but I felt it was a better solution then a usb extension cable just make sure you get the mini-B 8-pin not the 5-pin model.

William,

According to the BYN Camera Support Grid you only need a single USB cable for full control of the D5300. The DSUSB (not DSUB) cable that you use with your D5100 is not necessary with the D5300.

You would be hard pressed to use 2 USB cables since there is only a single USB jack on the camera.

Thanks.  The D5100 used two cables with one connecting through the DSUSB.  That connected to the manual shutter cable or GPS jack in the camera.  The USB also had to be connected from the camera to the computer.  Since the camera no longer works I will sell the DSUSB.

You posted to a thread on a different topic (using a DSUSB/serial shutter cable with a D5300). This may make it difficult for folks to find your question.

That said, you should be able to use a standard USB extension cable to allow more distance between the camera and the PC. A 6 ft extension cable should work just fine.

Sorry, my bad.
