As per the log above...i'm contacting you. Guy, do I need to have the usb 3.0 connected to my D500 AND a usb to the 10 pin controller also for BYN to control the D500? With my D7000 I needed the usb 2.0 and the 8 pin controller connected. TY

The above log was generated with  only the usb 3.0 connected. I have to find a 10 pin to usb connection cable in the future as I only have a non compatible 8 pin.

I started this thread a while ago with the hope the Guy would be able to come through with the update for the D500. I'm happy to report he has not disappointed but infact exceeded my expectations. The D500 works flawlessly now and I can't wait to make good use of it in the very near future.

Thank you very much Guy!

Dave,

The D500 is supported by the latest release of BYN (version 2.0.0), but the Camera Support Grid has not yet been updated to reflect that.

Although I don't know for sure I would guess that you will be able to control the camera with ONLY the regular USB cable, since that has been the trend for newer cameras. You should not need to use a second DSUSB cable for Bulb exposures.

Even if you need a second cable for Bulb exposures, you should be able to connect with only the regular USB cable.

If you can get the D500 connected then you can easily see if it will take Bulb exposures with only the one cable...However, don't forget to change the Cable Support to Camera USB so that it will try to do Bulb exposures with just the single cable.

I've connected the D500 with the dsusb 10 pin connection and the 3.0 usb cable. With both connected, the camera is recognized by the computer ( can check it's firmware etc...) but is NOT contolled by BYN.

Any help welcomed.

What do you mean "is NOT controlled by BYN"?

What version of BYN are you using? Which version of the SDK did you select? Does BYN connect with the camera?

I would start by NOT using the DSUSB cable.  You will still be able to connect and take short exposures. Once that is working you can see if the DSUSB is required for shutter control of BULB exposures.

Hi Dave,

I'm a bit puzzled by the error "Device(D500) Module(Unknown) found!".  The fact that the Nikon module is unknown is probably the root cause.  Let me double check that the SDK drivers for the D500 are the correct one packaged in BYN.

Hi Dave,

Please copy/replace these 2 files in "C:\Program Files (x86)\BackyardNIKONv2.0\Nikon\Type0020_D500\".

<<link removed>>

Then try again and make sure to select the "Nikon" sdk drivers in BYN, not "Nikon2015".

Is still the log I recieve. I've rebooted the computer with the same result.
I'm using shoestring astronomy's DSUSB and a 10 pin connector for the D500 as well as a USB 3.0 cable.

Yep...exact same error stack I received. I sent log file to Guy and he posted on my thread for me to look into a folder issue. Will check on that this evening.

Well, this appears to be a Nikon SDK issue since the actual error is unknown module.

Device(D500) Module(Unknown) found!

I will contact Nikon and try to get a D500 on consignment for testing.  This may take several weeks maybe a month or 2 though,
