BYE hangs in "PHD Port"

photon-noize

Question

Hi all,

as of lately I ran into the following problem, using BYE 3.1.6 and OpenPHD 2.6.1 on Windows 10:

- Dithering intermittently hangs in the "PHD Port" at the end of the exposure time, and doesn't continue with "Dithering 2,55" etc.

- The then still on-going execution of the exposure plan (in loop) cannot be stopped with "Abort", I've to exit BYE by closing the window (which works).

- This happened 5 times last night during approx. 16 exposures, 15 min each. Sometimes with the first pic, sometimes a couple exposures work well, then it hangs.

- All the time PHP2 is running without any problems, manual dither work, testing from BYE config screen works.

- Kinda annoying because it forces me to babysit the imaging session.

Log file attached, I'll see whether I can reproduce this in "dry" mode. Yes, I do know that these are not the latest version, so I'll also try updating both BYE and PHD2.

Error case in log file:

2016-08-07 02:39:53,191 [5] INFO  - PHD dithering...
2016-08-07 02:39:53,191 [5] INFO  - PHD Dither is starting...
... and nothing further

Good case in log file:
2016-08-07 02:23:55,587 [5] INFO  - PHD dithering...
2016-08-07 02:23:55,587 [5] INFO  - PHD Dither is starting...
2016-08-07 02:24:03,821 [5] INFO  - PHD Dithering pixel value = 2.55

Any help would very much appreciated. Thanks.

Martin

Martin,

At the point where BYE is hanging, it is waiting for PHD to say that the dithering is complete.

If you run a previous or later version of PHD2 (version 2.6.2 was released in late July), does it work as expected with BYE? Perhaps the PHD2 folks made a change that broke the original protocol that BYE uses.

Also, have you changed any of the dither parameters in BYE's setup screen or in PHD2? PHD will not say that dithering is complete until it has re-adjusted to the new guide star location for so many seconds. Perhaps it is not adjusting correctly.

I am using BYE 3.1.7 with PHD2 2.6.1 and the PHD's simulator camera. Dithering is working just fine with all the default parameters.
