If you look at the list of supported cameras here you will see that the D500 is not in the list. Either Nikon has not released a Software Development Kit (SDK) that allows BYN to control that model, or the model is too new and the SDK has not been released yet.

Once Nikon releases an SDK that supports the D500, Guylain has to incorporate it into a new version of BYN and it must be tested.  All of this could take a few months.

Since the D500 button appears in the 2016 Nikon BYN matrix, I took that to mean it is supported.

Sorry, I don't know what you mean by the "2016 Nikon BYN matrix".

The definitive list of supported cameras is on the BackyardNikon Product Page. Click on the "here" link in my previous post.

Here is another post where someone was asking about the D500 only a couple of weeks ago.

https://www.otelescope.com/index.php?/topic/1595-new-d500-wireless-accessory-controls-camera-from-up-to-600-feetcompatible/?hl=d500

Guylain asked that person for help to test a pre-release version of BYN for that camera. I don't know whether it was taken care of off-line but the thread just petered out.

When the Nikon D750 was first released, I beta tested BYN for Guylain. I'll email him and offer to do the same for D500.

Matrix may not be the correct term, so I'll post a screenshot shortly of what I am referring to.

What is the folder content in your BYN install directory .\Nikon\Type0020_D500\

The error seams to indicate a file missing.

Oh, and there is no such thing as Nikon2016 when connecting your camera.  There is Nikon2015 and Nikon.  Did you try both?

The D500 is supported, I did not update the website grid yet, my bad.

The D500 is supported, I did not update the website grid yet, my bad.

By clicking on the first option for Nikon, I arrived at the next screen displaying a matrix of buttons for Nikon models, including the D500. I click on the D500, and that's when I get the error telling me to contact you.

By clicking on the 2nd option for Nikon2015, I don't get far. The next screen displays the Nikon model matrix, but both the D500 and D5 buttons are disabled

Below are screenshots showing the disabled D500 button, and the install directories. Notice Nikon2015 lacks a D500 folder.

Notice the D5 and D500 are disabled:

Directory path for Nikon2015, which is missing the D500 folder:

Hope fully it does connect.  If not I'll be able to try first hand when I get my D500 in consignment from Nikon next month.

It works! I tested multiple duration settings and multiple ISO settings, and verified the ISO changed. Good job! Any other steps you want me to test?
