Update User Guide with Connection Help

Question

New users often post to one of the Support Forums when they are unable to connect BYE or BYN to their camera.

I would suggest that help for most models could be added to the User Guide, with references to the Supported Cameras list. Then if the app is unable to connect, you could offer to open the user guide to display the relevant topic(s). This could be hidden as the "Ask for Drivers" dialog for experienced users.

Topics in the User Guide could be:

  • an explanation of the Supported Cameras table on the web site
  • a hyperlink to the Supported Cameras table.
  • how to avoid collisions with the EOS Utility and other SDK applications
  • compatible versions of Windows and which .NET version(s) are required.
  • how to correctly cable the camera to the PC, including cable lengths and a definitive statement about 2 parallel cables being needed for some older cameras
  • how to configure BYE/BYN when 2 cables are required

The more easily you can provide information to users for self-help, the less the support load.

Once the User Guide has been updated, then a pinned topic could be added to the Application Support forum for each camera pointing to the Guide.

Thanks!
