810a connection

Just got a new 810a and can connect every time with short two foot USB that came with it but when I put an extension on it (this extension worked for my last CCD) it won,t connect ! Need the extension obviously. HELP? John

Nikon even suggests to have the camera connected directly in the computer usb port, not even a hub.

 

However, it should work if the extension has an active repeater, otherwise the signal is too weak by the time it gets to and from the camera.

 

As Rick said, we need more detail on the length and type of your usb extension cable.

How long is the extension cable?

 

Is it an Active extension cable or just a regular extension cable?

I need about 15 feet , but the connection I'm trying is only about 10 feet. I think I bought an active,. Can I tell by looking? If nec. I'll go buy another but as I say it once worked at about 20 feet with my Atik. Thanks
