Mercury transit series

JLabrecque

Question

I am going to try a series of the Mercury transit on Monday.  I want to take a picture every 15 minutes as it crosses the Sun.  Since the Sun is relatively bright I was going to use Aperture preference with my D300 so the camera will make adjustments in brightness as the Sun increases in altitude.  All the previous pics have been at night on Manual.  Is it possible to use an auto setting with BYN or does the camera have to be in Manual?

Also I have attempted to save to the camera in NEF but BYN always saves to the laptop even when it is set to camera or camera/computer.  Is it possible to do this?  Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you for your input in advance.

John

On some model the SDK will NOT save to camera.  The D300 seems to be one of them.

You are using a lens or a telescope?  If you are using a telescope the camera can't choose the aperture for you as this is a function of the lens, not the camera.
