error message MSVCP120.dll missing

ricklhogan

Question

I installed the trial version of BackyardNikon on an HP Stream laptop running Windows 8.1. 64 bit. See attached image of the error message when I try to launch the program.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times including installing with msconfig set for only microsoft services, no start up programs. Also tried compatibility modes.

The program appears to go ahead and start, but I am unable to connect a camera.

I have not tried to alter the computer registery using regedit yet. I suspect that the registry will need to be cleared.

I was able to install on a desktop running 8.1 64 bit with no problem.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for posting here on the forum, our conversation may help others in the future.

This is not a BYN file.  It is a Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 redistribution file.

BYN does not need that file BUT the Nikon SDK does and for some reason it is missing on your computer.

Please download it form MS and reinstall it.  You need the 32(x86) bits version for BYN, even if your computer is a 64 bits you need to install the 32 bits version.

Hi, you can also go to C:\Windows\System32  and copy (do not move!!) the msvcp120.dll file to the file directory where BYN is installed. Usually located as a sub directory in C:\Program Files (x86) .   Do a reboot to refresh the dll and you are good to go.
