Connection problems

rayquimby

Question

I have a Nikon d610 and dell laptop less that 1 year old.  I've downloaded the trial copy of backyard Nikon and am having trouble connecting.  The laptop recognizes the camera but the program only connects occasionally. I'm using the usb cable that came with the camera.  Any suggestions?  The program looks great if I can get it to talk with the equipment.  Thanks.

Make sure that the memory card in the camera is empty, or nearly so.  BYN uses the Nikon SDK for each camera. The SDK wants to index all of the images on the memory card and the more images the card contains, the longer it takes to connect.

This has been discussed in several posts in the BYN forum.

Still no luck. I've read a number of no connection posts, used an empty SD card, tried a couple different USB cables and attempted a connection on my d300s as well..all failed. The firmware on either camera has not been updated in the recent past, and is original on the d610. I fully charged the battery overnight and will try again today, but the battery has been nearly charged on all connection attempts.

I just got confirmation from a D5300 owner that the new SDK as fixed his connection issues.

I will do more testing this weekend and then hopefully release BYN 1.0.5 with new SDKs files for all models.

My trial license expired between 1.04 and 1.05, before I could connect.  Any chance to get an extension to evaluate 1.05?  Thanks.

I have archived your old trial key, you should be able to add a second trial in your cart now.

I have just bought downloaded the latest premium version of BYN.  Have hooked up my D610.  Software says not connected.

I am using Win 10.

Yes I have disconnected the SD cards.

I used to have the Beta version of BYN, and it worked just fine.

Help!

Beta version??? What was the version number, like 1.0.0 BETA?  The pre-release beta versions of BYN expired months and months ago.

The software does not connect automatically, you have to click Connect once the camera is powered on and connected to the PC.

What steps are you following and when do you see "not connected"? The more information you provide the better the replies!

If it ain't broken don't fix it.

I have received mixed feedback with 1.0.5.

All have reported that 1.0.5 does connect after a firmware upgrade where it was not with 1.0.4.

Some have reported that 1.0.5 does connect without a firmware upgrade and some are reporting that 1.0.5 does not connect while 1.0.4 did without a firmware upgrade; you seem to fall in that category.

I think I will have to do in BYN what I have done in BYE where I give the user the option of which Nikon SDK to use, I'm not sure yet.
