Question

Hi Again,

I downloaded v3.1.5 as the free trial. (Web site indicates the latest version for trial test is not stable)

Questions:

Imaging Section:

1) I'm guessing the grid icon is a # sign versus the cross hair icon in the manual.  When I click on the # icon no grid appears?  Pls advise

2) Pls explain the various frame types: Light Dark, Flat ect.

3) Do the values in the Capture Plan Center override the camera settings??  For example I use a 2 sec delay & mirror lockup when using my remote.  When  I press the remote button the mirror locks up then the shutter opens in 2 seconds.  This is overridden by the Capture Plan.  Same question for ISO settings, Capture Plan overrides camera settings??

4) Does a Canon 60da support DIGIC 4, ie mirror lockup via USB connection?

5) What is ASCOM focusing?

Frame & Focus

1) What does the 5X icon do?

2) Image Zoom w/Hot Cursor, page up & down & - + buttons don't work in Win Xp, just the mouse scroll wheel, and that isn't great at selecting a zoom size.

Thanks,

George

Hi Georges,

What do you mean latest not stable for trials , it is!

For your other question I suggests you read the user manual first, some of your questions are basic astrophotography questions are not necessarily just for BackyardEOS.

Changing a setting in BYE with change the camera setting :)

Imaging screen

1) Yes, the button image for the Grid Overlay toggle button changed after the manual was last updated. No grid is shown until an image is displayed.

2) The frame types are basic astrophotography terminology. Light frames are images of your deep sky target. The others are calibration frames.  Mostly they are just labels that BYE puts into the names of the files to help you distinguish between them.  However, BYE will only dither between Light frames.

Before going too far into astrophotography you should understand the basics about how to capture the different types of calibration frames and how your stacking software uses them.

3) Yes, but not all cameras support mirror lockup, and some of the older models require a special serial cable, in addition to the regular USB cable to do mirror lockup.  Look at the Camera Support Grid (scroll to the bottom of this page and select either the BYE or BYN camera support grid link).  If you are doing BULB exposure deep sky astrophotography, mirror lockup is unnecessary and only wastes time!

4) The processor (computer chip) in the 60Da camera is the DIGIC IV.  Look at the Camera Support Grid for confirmation of your camera's capabilities and limitations.

5) If your telescope has a motorized focuser with a computer connection (RS-232, USB, Ethernet) for which there is an ASCOM driver then you can control that focuser from the BYE/BYN Premium edition's ASCOM Focuser functionality.  Go to the ASCOM Platform web site and the web site for your focuser for more information.

Frame & Focus

1) Typically, the LCD display on the back of the camera does not display images at their full resolution.  The 5X Zoom button displays the portion of the LiveView image at the zoom box at full resolution, just like the zoom buttons on the camera..

2) I abandoned XP years ago, but on my system the + and - keys on the numeric keypad cause the BYE LiveView image to zoom in and out, as do the Page Up and Page Down keys that are NOT on the numeric keypad. Use the mouse to drag the image to pan to portions that are not visible.

Hi,

I am reading the user manual, and the functionality questions are not covered, especially the icons and override ones.  Its still winter here, I can figure it out by T&E, but would be easier for you to clarify.

As to stability, the free trial download choices indicated only the lasted version of 3.1.6 was stable, and it was not available for download.  Which is why I'm trying 3.1.5  Maybe I was confused by your terminology.

Thanks

P.S. A pdf download of the manual would be nice
