Cant connect with DSUSB cable

djnhbf

Question

Hi, I just downloaded the free trial BYEOS and I can't connect my Canon 6D through my DSUSB cable. I can connect through the regular usb cable that came with the camera and I can switch to the DSUSB cable once connected, through the capture plan center under cable support, which recognizes and controls the camera fine but need to have the USB cable connected as well. I can control the camera through the DSUSB cable alone using DSLR shutter. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

thanks

Derek

Derek,

I am not surprised that you cannot connect BYE to your 6D with only a DSUSB cable. This is because the DSUSB cable only controls the shutter for BULB exposures. You still need the "regular USB cable" for all the other functions, like Connecting, LiveView, image download, or setting capture parameters. In other words, some cameras may need 2 cables to be connected simultaneously for full functionality. The "regular USB cable" connects between the USB jack on camera to a USB jack on the PC and the DSUSB cable connects to the remote shutter jack on the camera and a second USB jack on the PC.

However, the 6D is not one of those cameras. You do NOT need to use the DSUSB cable with the 6D to do BULB exposures.  Refer to the Camera Support Grid for confirmation. It says that BYE can control the shutter for BULB exposures and Mirror Lock with only the regular USB cable. That said, the DSUSB cable should work if BYE is correctly configured. I would refer you to the BYE User Guide for configuration instructions...search the User Guide for "serial cable". The User Guide is accessible via the question mark button near the upper right corner of BYE's main screen.
