What type of license key is it? Trial, Classic, or Premium?

A Trial license is only good for 30 days, so if it has been that long since it was issued to you, it has expired.

For a paid Classic or Premium license, make sure to use Copy and Paste to transfer the key from the web site into your copy of BYN. Also, be sure that your pc is running Windows 8 or later. Windows 7 has obsolete security software and is no longer supported.

Downloading the software, even a different version of BYN/BYE, is different from getting a license. Here are the steps, from the beginning:

  1. Create an account or Logon to the O'Telescope web site
  2. Select Downloads from the menu bar at the top of any page on the site.
  3. Download any version of BYN.
  4. Install the downloaded software
  5. Go to the O'Telescope Store and purchase your license (BYN and BYE licenses are not interchangeable).
  6. Go to My Purchases -> Orders, also on the blue menu bar to see your license
  7. Swipe the mouse across the entire license key and use Ctrl-C to copy it to the Windows Clipboard
  8. Launch BYN/BYE and click on the padlock icon on the title bar, near the right side
  9. Click on "Edit license" and press Ctrl-V to paste your license key into the text box control.
  10. Enter your login id into the Identifier field, making sure to case it correctly.
  11. Click Validate to complete the process.

NOTE: It is unfortunate that you used an email address as your username/identifier. This is because you cannot change your identifier and if you get a new email address you MUST remember that your old email address is what you must use to log onto this web site. You license keys are associated with the old email address forever!

Hi,

I just tried your key and it worked first time.

Make sure you cut&paste your key and identifier direct from the website, do not type it in as the letter O looks awfully similar to the number 0, and same for the letter I and number 1.

Also, your identifier is case sensitive.

Keep us posted.

I tried all suggestions with no luck.  My theory is that the first time I downloaded BYN it got assigned the key.  Due to my ignorance, I must have downloaded it again and overwrote the original. Now the key under purchases will not activate.  I can only find one copy of BYN (unless there are suggestions on where to look)

If the only resolution is to uninstall and repurchase another copy so be it.  Luckily I do not use my D500 to often so that can wait.  FYI my new laptop runs Windows 11 so I am sure thar added to my confusion.

Thanks again.

First, downloading BYN does not cause it to be assigned a key!

To get a key you must purchase it from the O'Telescope Store. Then you enter the key into the BYN application using the procedure that I outlined in my previous post..

Because keys are stored separately on the web site, you can always see yours by clicking on My Purchases -> Orders on the blue menu bar at the top of this page.

On your PC, keys are stored separately from the BYN software, so by deleting and installing the software should allow you to re-use your same key. If, by chance, the new copy of BYN needs you to re-enter your key it is always available on this web site.

The only reasons why the key listed on My Purchases -> Orders would not activate is that it is for a Trial license that has expired, or you are trying to install a Trial key on an older version of BYN. If this is the case, you should install the latest release of BYN and then try to validate your key, if requested. Any purchased Classic or Premium  BYN key, regardless of when you purchased it, is still valid for any version of BYN released to date.

BYN IS fully compatible with Windows 11, so that should not be the cause of any confusion.
