Question

I searched to find out whether BYE/BYN worked with the ZWO EAF (electronic focuser), or if I needed some other piece of software or the ASIAIR. I couldn’t find the answer online anywhere (including this forum), but the quick answer is: Yes, BYE/BYN will control the EAF through a PC via ASCOM. No need to buy the ASIAIR.
I assembled the EAF (new version as of 2024) onto my RC8, downloaded and installed the ASCOM driver for it using the link at the ZWO website, then plugged my camera and the EAF into ports on my Win10 machine. In this case, I had my D810a handy, so I used BYN.
I turned on my D810a, connected BYN, clicked on the box for ASCOM focuser, and a small window opened (like an iinstallation wizard) I had to selected the ZWO EAF from a drop-down box and click on ‘properties’ to set it up, but it was essentially automatic. At that point the Focuser window in BYN was active, and I could click on the <<< and >>> buttons to move the focuser on the RC8 in and out.
I did this in the daytime. I’m eager now to get a clear sky one night soon to do more work with it.
