BackyardNIKON 2.1 Trial Edition [OTL-BYN-T]

corley

Question

I had forgotten about this software until today.  I am getting back into astrophotography and I would like to try this software again.  What would I need to do to use the trial again?  I want to see if it will work better with my new camera.

Thank you

If your existing Trial license has expired, you need to request a second trial. The developers have been very generous with regard to providing a second free 30-day trial license. I would not, however, try to request a 3rd trial license.

What do you mean by "I want to see if it will work better with my new camera."? What was your old camera model and what version of BYN were you using? How did BYN not work well with that camera? If your problem was pilot error, perhaps the community can help you with it.

What is the model of your new camera? Is it listed as a supported model on the BYN Supported Cameras page that is linked at the bottom of this page?

Be aware that when Nikon releases a new camera model they can decide to NOT have it supported in their SDK. It is rare, but it does happen. This means that BYN will not be able support that model. Look at the Supported Camera Models page to see that there are several models that fall into this category.

And if they do decide to have a new camera model supported by their SDK then it can take them some time to release a new version of the SDK with support for that model. Then it can take further time for O'Telescope to add support for the camera model in BYN. In addition, even updating the camera's firmware (something that Nikon owners seem to frequently do) can require a new version of the Nikon SDK. In this case BYN will be broken until a new version of the Nikon SDK with support for the updated firmware is released, and then more time to get a new version of BYN released to support the new SDK.

I mention this because I would not want you to get a new Trial license only to find out that your new camera is not yet supported by BYN. In that case, you would need to wait until there is a version of BYN that you know supports your camera and purchase a Classic or Premium license in order to use BYN.
