The more information you can provide, the more targeted the response and the quicker your problem can be resolved.

There is nothing about the Surface Laptop 2 that would prevent BYE from running. However there may be some required Windows software that is missing.

Which version of BYE did you install?

Did it install with no errors reported?

How are you trying to start BYE? from a desktop shortcut? starting the .exe file directly?

Do you see any error messages? It would help to see a screenshot of any errors.

By "BinaryRivesEOS Start" I assume you mean BinaryRivers.BackyardEOS.Start.Camera1. If not, please provide more information.

Thanks!

Thank you for the answer. I am older and my English is not good.

Okay, I use Windows 11, I have installed BYE 3.2.3 No problems by Installation etc.

Yes, I mean BinaryRivers.BackyardEOS.Start.Camera1. When I press the button "connect", then I can see "the software does not react"

Joachim,

Thanks for the additional information. Your English is fine.

OK, so BYE starts up with no problem, but it will not connect.

What is your camera model? The camera model is required information every time you ask for help.

Different camera models have different capabilities and require different settings in the camera's menus in order to work with the Canon software and with BYE.

I am guessing that "the software does not react" may be due to a translation error. What language are you using? If you provide a screenshot of the error then I may be able to provide a different word instead of "react".

Some settings to change, depending on your camera model are

  • Make sure that the camera is recognized by Windows...Look for the camera in the Windows Device Manager. It must be connected with a USB cable.
  • Make sure that the camera is in Manual shooting mode
  • Disable WiFi in the camera
  • Allow the camera to shoot without a lens attached.

There may be more settings that you will need to change, but I cannot tell until you provide the camera model.

Rick,

Thanks for your efforts, but I think now, that the problem is the system software Windows 11. Have you heard anything like that?

Camera is a Canon EOS 700D. Language german. Therefore no translating error.

I changed the settings as above.

Previously, the O'Telescope developer has said that he uses Windows 11 on his development computer and has had no problem with it running BYE or BYN.

My camera is also a 700D and I have used it on both Windows 7 and Windows 10 and several versions of BYE, up to 3.2.3, without any issues.

I would also say that if BYE starts up that you likely have the correct requisite operating system software like the C++ runtime library and .NET version installed.

When you plug the camera into the PC and power the camera on, does Windows recognize the camera and show it in the Windows Device Manager? For example, here is what I see:

image.png.67c9181fe8f277afe7d9f87c0241b919.png

and here is the Log History contents after a successful connection

08:07:04  Licensed to astroman133
08:07:05  BackyardEOS 3.2.3 Premium Edition
08:07:11  Attempting to connect camera...
08:07:11  Canon drivers 'Canon\' initialized.
08:07:13  700D-T5i CONNECTED!

You should see something very similar.

Canon EOS Utility is another camera control application from Canon. If it is connected to the camera then BYE will not be able to connect.

When the camera is first powered on and Windows first sees the camera, Wildows will display an AutoPlay dialog which asks how you want to use the camera. For BYE you must answer "Take No Action" in the AutoPlay popup window. Choosing another option can cause failure of BYE to connect, due to the fact that a different low-level driver is loaded.
