Cannot Connect to Z9

twinion

Question

I'm trying to connect my Z9 and haven't had any luck so far.

I'm using BackyardNIKON 3.5.0 x64 - RC6 and connecting to a Nikon Z9 with Firmware 4.1

I've attempted this on multiple Windows 11 PCs (one custom desktop and one Dell XPS15), using both USB A->C and C->C cables, not using any USB hubs. The battery is full and the memory card is empty. I have the USB setting to MTP/PTP. When first connecting, I get the "The camera is in upload priority mode. To exit upload priority mode and return to live view, press the shutter-release button half way" message. I press the shutter half-way to return to live view and I can see the USB symbol on the camera. The memory card is available in Windows explorer. I am able to successfully use tethered shooting on Lightroom Classic on the same PC, so I'm confident the camera connection is good.

I've had the same results on both PCs and have power cycled the camera between attempts and the PCs themselves.

The log from the connection attempt reads:

14:59:34  BackyardNIKON 3.5.0 RC6
14:59:50  Attempting to connect camera...
14:59:51  NikonX64/Z9 drivers initialized.
14:59:58  Camera Not Found!  Make sure it's connected to the PC and turned ON :)

Any troubleshooting suggestions are welcome.
