BYE issues with ASCOM focuser & Planetary shooting

ldesign1

Question

Hello Guylain:

Over the weekend, I was shooting some solar images via Planetary mode with my 500D-T1i. Every thing was working fine until I tried focusing through BYE interface. BYE connected to my ASCOM compliant focuser without any issues but the program became very sluggish and slow to respond once I started to use frame and focus feature. It was annoyingly slow!!! :-[  If I disconnected the focuser from BYE and used the focuser manually, everything worked fine.

The worse part was when I attempted to use Planetary mode while the focuser was connected. BYE would shut down my camera and would no longer connect even after turning the camera off and then back on. I would have to take out the battery then reinstall the battery before BYE would reconnect to the camera while the focuser was still connected. But the same thing would happen again every time I try to use Planetary Mode. Once again, BYE worked fine without a connection to the ASCOM focuser.

I'm using a UFO v3 focuser by USB_Focus on a Windows 7 64bit system. All my devices are connected to a powered USB hub. The only things connected at the time was my camera, the focuser, and my AZ-EQ6 mount. None of the USB cable are longer than two meters and all are shielded cables. I am using BackyardEOS v3 Premium software.

Any idea what's going on?

Hi Ralph... and welcome back :)

Yes, know bug with -some- focusers... including my Moonlite focusers <_>

It is fixed in my development environment and will be in the next release 3.0.x or 3.1 release.

Great! I was hoping that it wasn't hardware related. But not great for you since you had to fix it. At least you were already aware of it.

Yeah, I've been absent for about a year because I had been without a camera. I spent the year doing solar and lunar imaging with my Imaging Source camera. I recently picked up this camera on Ebay and modified it myself. This will do until I can pickup another cooled camera from CentralDS. But it's great to be back and contributing once again.
