Which ASTAP Version to Use?

Biscotte

Question

All,

it looks like this year or next year(!) it may be less than 80 pct cloud (North Britain).  I'm getting the kit ready to try again now we are going rapidly into Winter.

and here is the question:-

ASTAP seems to update their programme two or three times a month.  Can anyone say if they are all good?  Or is there is a super-reliable version and the others not so good?

Dummy runs from www downloads and some of my old pix work ok.  Living in hope, I do a download every two or three months, so I have a few to choose from.  Telescope camera is 450d if that makes a difference.  I am looking forward to trying out ASTAP 'in anger' and dont have many occasions to get it right or puzzle over 'no-worky'.

What that means is that if you can get ASTAP to solve some images that you have already shot it should work fine with BYE to do live platesolving.

Did you look at the release notes for each of the recent versions? To me it looked like the author(s) were refining their technique for removing satellite trails from a stack of images, but ultimately decided that a sigma clip algorithm would do just as good a job at removing the trails. I would be surprised if this in any way affected the logic to plate solve a single image.

Still you might consider asking your question on the ASTAP users' forum.
