Did you try it?

It won't work initially, but you'll get a message like the following, and it will tell me if the R50 is supported with the current Canon SDK I last compiled BYE with.

14:26:58  DEVICEINFO DESCRIPTION IS MTP USB Device
14:26:58  DEVICEINFO NUMBER IS 2971957769.
14:26:58  YOUR *REAL* MODEL NUMBER IS 2147484722(80000432)

Send me those numbers once you try to connect your R50.

Here's the log output:

17:04:11  DEVICEINFO DESCRIPTION IS Canon EOS R50
17:04:11  DEVICEINFO NUMBER IS 2971957947.
17:04:11  YOUR *REAL* MODEL NUMBER IS 2147484800(80000480)
17:04:12  YOUR camera is not currently supported by the Canon SDK available at the time of this software release.
17:04:12  Camera Not Found!  Make sure it's connected to the PC and turned ON :)

The log output says it all:

YOUR camera is not currently supported by the Canon SDK available at the time of this software release.

Until Canon releases an SDK (software library) with support for the R50, and BYE incorporates that SDK into a new release, you will just have to wait. That could honestly take a few months. Fortunately, the info in your post gives the developers what they need to get the camera recognized and BYE connected to it. They may have to make changes to actual code base support the new model, but it should work since both the M50 and the M50 Mk II are supported and the R50 is their direct descendant.

Thanks for the quick response. I was hoping it was just I needed something additional installed. Just looked on the Canon developer website and it looks like R50 support was added back in March (Canon Developer Community) so maybe it won't be long. I'm a complete noob when it comes to astrophotography, so I have a ton to learn. :)

That 80000480 number tells me the R50 is supported with the current Canon SDK currently compiled with BYE. I'm leaving town for 2 months in 2 days, I'm nt sure I can do anything before then, but will try.
