EOS 350D again

magnuslar

Question

Hi!

I'm trying to get an old EOS 350D to work with BYE. I've seen the previous posts on this camera, but I have some additional questions:

- I don't have the original CD/DVD anymore - what drivers do I need to install? I checked the Canon site and there I find no drivers at all for Win7 32 bit. However, there are a driver for Vista 32 bit, so I downloaded that one...

- Previous posts talk abut driver in BYE - where and how do I choose camera drivers in BYE? Previously I've used a 70D, and never chosen any drivers... as I recall. Where do I choose them?

- Also, I have no EOS utility. And I cannot find any on the Canon website. Any suggestions for finding this, or should I not have it?

And I don't have a serial cable yet. Want to have this working before I buy one. But as I understand, that is just for bulb exposures. It should work without it. I've set the camera setting to PC connction, not PTP.

Best,

Magnus

Magnus,

I believe that people have gotten a 350D to work on a 32-bit Win 7 with the Vista driver, so I would try that.

When you click on the Connect button you may see the driver selection dialog.  If not you should go into the Advanced Settings and check the Ask for driver checkbox.  After that when you click on Connect and get the driver selection dialog, for the 350D, you must select the older camera group on the left.

The EOS Utility uses the Canon SDK to talk to the camera.  Canon dropped support for the 350D from the SDK some time ago.  That may be why you cannot find the EOS Utility as a listed application for your camera.

The 350D is old and the sensor temperature is not available, nor of course is LiveView.  The serial cable is only used for BULB exposures and Mirror Lockup (not commonly needed).  Other than that, if the Vista driver works on Win 7 32-bit then you stand a chance of working.

Hi!

Great, thanks. Now I can choose driver. And I did install the VIsta 32 bit. However, I still cannot connect. The window with connection failure information pops up.

Anything else I should check? I never connected the camera at all to a win computer before.

Sorry, what doesn't work???

You do have to be logged onto the site in order to get to "my client area".

As far as I can tell your login ID is "Jan-Beuz" and this is what you should enter as the license identifier.

If you copy/past the license key from the "my client area" screen to the BYE License validation screen and then type in your login ID (not your email address) as the Identifier, what happens?

I think maybe the problem is that I executed on my laptop, and not on my pc, at which the program could not connect to the camera.( Windows10).

So I tried to install it on my laptop with Windows XP.

Could that really give the trouble?

Jan

Jan,

I am very confused about what you are reporting.

Are you having trouble validating your BYE license? or connecting to your camera?

BYE runs on all versions of Windows from XP to Windows 10.  However not all cameras are supported for all operating systems. See the Camera Support Grid for support details.

Please be clear about what you are trying to do and what you are seeing.

What camera model do you have?

You posted in an existing thread regarding the 350D and your issues seems related to the activation key.

Can you please start a new thread with your specific issue.  It makes it very difficult follow the real issue otherwise :(

Please include the exact error your are getting if you aer getting one.

OK, so you have a Windows 10 PC and a Windows XP PC.

If the Windows 10 is 64-bit, then the 350D will not connect.

If Windows 10 is 32-bit then you should be able to connect the 350D.

If you have Windows XP AND you have the Canon driver installed (from the CD that came with the camera), then you should be able to connect.

Keep us updated with your status.

Oke Rick,

thanks for the info. I will quit tryiing to connect on my windos10 ps for that is a 64-bit machine.

But stays the problem on miy laptop, with XP and the Canon-drivers installed, There I am unable to install the BYE soft ware.

Maybe the reason is that it is a stand-alone machine?

Jan

You can't install at or you can't activate your copy of BackyardEOS once it is installed?

Do you get an error message?

Of course you need to be connected to the internet to download BYE. However, with a Thumb drive you can move the BYE setup program to a different PC.  However, the easiest way to enter your license key is by copy and paste, but you must be connected to the Internet to go to the O'Telescope web site, logon, and go to "my client area".

If you are still having trouble, per the User Guide you may need to temporarily disable your anti-virus software to get BYE installed and activated.

If this does not solve your issue, then you need to provide more detailed informatlon about exactly what you are doing and what problem you are having.

And you also need Internet access to the trial edition, everything you start BYE/BYN.

Purchase keys do not require Internet access but Trials do.  If you do not have Internet access and you want to you use a trial of BYE/BYE you are out of luck unless your purchase or you do your tests on a computer that has Internet access.
