Question

I think it would be useful if in the capture plan center there was the option to select different filters and frame types

for example

1 exposure 5 shutter bulb duration 10 iso 1600 of a light frame with a UHC filter

2 exposure 5 shutter bulb duration 10 iso 1600 of a light frame with an OIII filter

3 exposure 5 shutter bulb duration 10 iso 1600 of a light frame with no filter

4 exposure 5 shutter bulb duration 10 iso 1600 of a dark frame with a UHC filter

etc etc

Glad I found this thread.

I too would like to be able to create a single plan with lights/dark/bias

I would like to be able to start the run and forget about it and have my darks and bias at the end. Surely there would be a pause and an alarm at the end of the light frames run so I could cover the scope... not sure I understand what is the rationnal for why we cannot do that. I am no developer so I give the author the benefit of the doubt ! I would just like to know if this is possible and if so, will this be implemented in the future ?

It is not possible to have a single plan mixing darks (or flats) with other image type.  This is because DARKS require you to physically put the cap on the telescope as it is not possible to take images with a DSLR with the shutter closed.

Granted that a capture plan that allowed mixing frame types would be more complex, but it is possible.  In order to be usable such a plan would have to support the ability to put a manual pause as one of the columns in the plan.  The manual pause suspends the plan until it is resumed or aborted by the user. I implemented this for a capture program that I wrote for me to control my mono and OSC CCD cameras. It gives me the ability to install or remove my EL Flat Panel with minimal disruption to the capture plan.

Hi

This is exactly how MaximDL works. It puts up a box at the end of each Lights/Darks/Bias section asking you to add/remove the scope cap or light box. If you order your sequence correctly as eg. Lights then Darks then Bias then Flats, it works really well. For me, it's a good way to work and I too would like to see it incorporated into BYE.

Cheers

Bill

I understand. A line with pause or an alarm+pause when changing from 'light' [type] of frame to a different [type] could solve this. I'll take a look at MaximDL as suggested by another user but I'd really like to see this in BYE in a future release, this would make my imaging session much easier ;)

The filter option has already been mentioned and it makes sense with the growing number of people having mono dslr.

However, since it is not possible with a DSLR to take images with the mirror down it is not possible to mix lights and darks in the same plan :(

With a dark frame, no light is supposed to reach the sensor, so the fact that there may be a filter in the light path is irrelevant.

Why is it not possible to mix lights and darks in the same capture plan? With my T5i the mirror always flips up for any type of exposure (light or dark). I thought that the only difference was in the file name and perhaps the metadata.

The Canon and Nikon SDKs do NOT Allow an Exposure without triggering a Full Shutter Click.

Why Not?? Only Canon and Nikon know for sure... (But it's not even listed as a Feature made available in Magic Lantern...)

I understand that.  That is why Guylain's comment confused me.

He said "However, since it is not possible with a DSLR to take images with the mirror down it is not possible to mix lights and darks in the same plan "

I asked for clarification because AFAIK the camera doesn't really know the difference between lights and darks so it should possible to move the Frame Type as a column in the capture plan so that each row could have a different frame type.  In order for this to be practical, the Pause column would also likely need to be enhanced to have a Manual Pause value which would allow the users to cover the objective or add a light box before continuing.

Happy I found this thread.  I'm guessing that things can't be done automatically, but it would be great to select a frame type in the plan, and when you need to stop and put the lens cap on, just pop up a message that says, something like 'Dark Frames, put the lens cap on now and click to continue process'.

This way, we can create nice plans with the correct settings and temperatures etc.

Thanks

Yes, this is probably to only workable solution and most likely be the way forward if/when I get to it.

Guylain,

I'm jumping on the bandwagon and would like to see this implemented too.  Keeping it simple with a indefinite alarm+pause (Rick's -1 idea) would make it easier to implement than trying to distinguish when the type changes from light to dark or vice-versa.
