Connection problem, Canon EOS rebelTSi to a Toshiba

GuyBrandenburg

Question

I cannot get my Canon EOS Rebel TSi to connect to my Toshiba laptop under BackyardEOS.

It connects just fine to other computers under BYE, and this laptop does recognize that the camera is attached to it, but no matter what USB cable I use, or which of the 3 USB ports on the computer that I use, I always get the same error message under BYE when I attempt to connect the camera::

Camera not Found! Make sure it's connected to the PC and turned On!

Any suggestions?

Guy

Please provide the correct camera model.

What version of Windows is on the PC that the camera is not connecting to? Some Canon models will only work on a 32-bit version of Windows.

What version of BYE are you using?

You say that Windows recognizes the camera,  What model does it recognize?

Are the USB ports using version 2.0 or 3.0 of USB?

Are you sure that the combination of camera and cable work on other PCs?

Does Canon's EOS Utility connect to the camera on the system where BYE does not connect?

Answering these questions will give Guylain and the rest of us more information to help you troubleshoot your issue.

The windows version on the laptop I can't get it to recognize at all any more is Windows Vista. At one point, it used to connect, though sporadically. I had to have the camera itself repaired due to me stepping on the cable once, in the dark, pulling it out, and damaging the camera. Ooogh.

it does not appear to be a cable problem - I've tried several, no change.

the camera is eos rebel XSi (ds126181) sorry, my bad there

BYE and this camera work fine on my desktop computer (windows 7 premium).

I did not receive a CD-ROM when I bought the camera (used). Canon says that all of the utilities for the computer are already included in Vista. However, I will try downloading some of the utilities they list and see what happens.

I think you just need to install EOS Utility and it should/may connect.  Since the camera does connect on W7 I'm pretty sure this is a Vista Driver issue.  Even if Canon says all it there I have seen cases where some models would only connect once EOS Utility was installed.

Keep us posted.

"EOS Digital Solution Disk Software 29.0A for Windows (For users who cannot use the bundled CD)". That, and then the EOS Utility updater. Those are the only ones you need.

When You install the solutions software (It's not that big) Choose custom (unless you want all the "bloatware") and choose just the EOS Utility. Then install the updater.

I went through that process just this morning on a 2nd laptop.

My workflow is connect first with EOS utility, disconnect, then connect with BYE. BYE never fails if EOS utility was successful, in that workflow.

Thanks for the advice.

I think I've done all that.

However, when I start the EOS utility, it says:

Connect an EOS camera

Pairing over wi-fi/LAN            Close

Even though it's plugged in with a USB cable, and I've tried several different ones and all three USB ports on the computer . Plus, the EOS utility won't start automatically, even though it's set to..

Suggestions?

I'm not sure, but there may be a setting in the EOS Utility to tell it to connect via USB rather than WiFi, since some of the newer cameras have limited WiFi capability.

Also, at some point, after you are done testing with the EOS Utility, that you should configure to not start automatically.  If it is connected to the camera then BYE will not be able to connect. I believe that this, too, is a setting for the EOS Utility.

Can you post a Screenshot of the EOS Utility display??

Unless your XSi has an Eye-Fi SD Card in it, it DOES NOT have any WiFi capability.  So, it is confusing how you are getting to a point where it suggests a WiFi Pairing...
