Camera connection 70D and 20D

astrofreak

Question

I just purchased the Premium software package today and am trying to connect my cameras so I can get out and give it some air later tonight if the clouds clear up!

Problem is.... my modified 20D doesnt get recognized......then tried my 70D... nope..... makes no sense!

Anyone had this trouble with either camera?  If so, please share a possible solution.... thanks

Rob

First, the 20D is an older camera so you have to choose the camera group on the left before connecting. Then it will only work with a 32-bit version of Windows (see the Camera Support Grid), because there is no system-level driver on the 64-bit OS's.

The 70D is fully supported with LiveView and Bulb exposures with only a USB cable on all versions of Windows since XP.  For the 70D you have to select the camera group on the right before connecting.

If you have a 32-bit OS and are selecting the correct camera group when connecting but still won't connect, you should make sure that you are using a good USB cable.

What version of Windows? 32-bit or 64-bit?

Did you try to connect your cameras during the trial period?  Have you ever been able to connect?

The 20D will only work on Windows 32 bits operating system.  This is a Canon limitation, they have no 64 bits drivers for these older models.

For the 70D, make sure that WIFI is disabled, otherwise it will not connect.

Perhaps you have previously used the Canon EOSUtility App to perform some Connection Tests between your 70D and your PC.

If you have, please make sure that EOSUtility isn't configured to Run in the Background (waiting for a Camera to be Connected), as this will block BYE from seeing the Camera (although BYE is usually able to advise you that EOSUtility is "lurking around".

Check in the Notification / System Tray portion at the lower right of the Windows Desktop.

And if you HAVE been using EOS Utility, it IS a good "2nd Opinion" to confirm whether there is anything amiss with your USB Cable or other support necessary for BYE to get connected to your DSLR.

(Just make sure that you Turn Off Background Execution, and if possible Reboot, before trying BYE after using EOSUtility...)

All good points! I dont have any of the canon software on the laptop. Its all on my desktop. However... I did have to plug in on my right side usb3/2 ports instead of the left side which is just usb2 after the wifi was shut off and I plugged in on the other side, everything worked beautifully! Very much appreciated for all the help!

Now to sell my 20d at starfest next week.
